The Mary Tavy Inn
Stepping into this beautiful 16th century country pub feels like coming home. It's a fantastic blend of old-world charm and modern comfort, creating a warm, friendly atmosphere. Inside, you'll find two distinct areas: a cosy bar with a big screen for catching the game and a separate, bustling dining room that was packed with happy folks enjoying a great meal. They have a fantastic selection of ales on tap—we highly recommend the local Jail Ale and the Mary Tavy Ale.
The real highlight, though, is the beer garden. It's truly stunning. You can grab a seat on the patio to watch a big screen or wander out to the grassy area for a breathtaking view of the beautiful countryside and moors. It's the perfect spot to relax and unwind. If you have kids with you, they'll love saying hello to the chickens in their coops. Oh, and guys, here's a little secret just for you: be sure to check out the toilets—you're in for a fun surprise.

Background....
Early Origins: It is believed that the inn began as a set of three cottages that offered rest and hospitality to travelers on the old Tavistock to Okehampton road.
Name Changes: Over the years, the establishment has been known by a few different names. It was once called The Elliot Hotel, and later, The Buller's Arms, named after the Buller family who owned a large portion of the land in the Mary Tavy area until the late 19th century. The name was eventually changed to The Mary Tavy Inn in the early 20th century.
Location and Purpose: Situated on a junction known as Lane Head, the inn was ideally located to serve travelers, including "post-boys" carrying the King's mail and those on foot or with packhorses. At one time, a smithy was also located there, providing a place for horses to be shod and carts to be mended.
Recent History: The inn today is a destination pub that offers food, a selection of ales, and bed and breakfast rooms. It is a well-regarded part of the local community, hosting various events and teams. The inn's modern-day amenities include a beer garden with views of Dartmoor and self-contained, high-quality letting bedrooms.
