The Old Thatch Inn
Great selection of beers, we had a pint of Utopian Pale Ale and a pint of Legend. The pub's interior has a wonderful old-world charm cottage style with plenty of cosy seating. We then headed out to the beer garden, which was absolutely delightful It's a beautiful, beer garden – perfect for relaxing in the sunshine. The barman was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, even telling us about the origins of the ale. What a fantastic spot.
P&P
Background....
Quintessential English pub with a rich history dating back over 400 years. It is a Grade II Listed building, first
listed on May 20, 1985, which signifies its special architectural or historic interest.
Originally, the building was likely two 2-room cottages, possibly from the early 19th century, constructed with plastered cob and rubble, and featuring stone stacks and a thatched roof. While the interior was extensively
modernized around 1960, some original features may still remain.
The pub has been a central part of village life for centuries, serving as a welcoming spot for locals and travellers alike. It is the only remaining public house in Cheriton Bishop, following the closure of another local pub in 2012
.
The Old Thatch Inn is known for its charm, warm atmosphere, and traditional pub offerings. It provides a
seasonal menu crafted from locally sourced ingredients, a selection of ales and ciders, and hosts various events like local band performances and quiz nights. The inn also offers en-suite accommodation.
