Even though the staff were busy clearing up after a bustling lunch, the atmosphere was wonderfully warm and inviting. The team behind the bar were incredibly friendly and helpful, serving up two perfect pints of
Tavistock Golden Ale.
And if you're bringing the family, you'll love the spacious beer garden with plenty of tables and a fantastic play area for the kids. It sounds like a truly delightful spot!

Background....
Early Origins (17th - 18th Century): The pub's history dates back as far as the 17th century, though some records suggest it was built in the early 18th century. It likely started its life as an isolated farmhouse.
Transformation to Ale House (Late 18th Century): By 1790, the farmhouse had become an ale house, catering to the needs of miners working at the nearby Yeoland tin mine. This indicates its strategic location within a working landscape.
Coaching Inn Days: For a period, it also served as a coaching inn, providing a popular stop for travelers on routes to and from Plymouth. This highlights its importance as a resting point on old transport networks.
Later Alterations: The building has undergone numerous renovations and alterations over the years. For instance, in 1950, the original two bars (public and private) and a slate-floored kitchen were knocked into one larger room. Despite these changes, it's noted that the pub has largely retained its traditional character.
Village Life: The Skylark Inn is a central feature of the small village of Clearbrook, which itself is described as a "scattered hamlet." It's well-placed for walkers, cyclists, and those exploring the River Meavy valley and Dartmoor.
Modern Day: Today, The Skylark Inn is known as a typical Dartmoor village pub, popular for its food, and serving a selection of South West real ales.It's considered a key community hub in Clearbrook.
